About Snoovi
Snoovi designs and Sewing courses are created by Jillian Zamora.
I have loved Sewing for ever. As a child I watched my mother make clothing for my brothers and I and was always intrigued by the process. I would draw pictures of designs and my mum would sew them for me. I then started making my own wierd and wonderful creations and adding on bits to other clothes to create the look I wanted.
On leaving School I completed a Diploma of Art and went on to working in the arts world as a potter, costume designer, dancer and clothing creator, In 2003 I attended Cairns Tafe and completed a Certificate 4 in Fashion. It was once I had acquired skill in patternmaking and haute couture sewing that my business became making clothing, unique and creative.
It was at this point that Snoovi evolved. Snoovi began as a design collective that I shared with 2 other designers. We opened a Studio Boutique in Cairns City that was very popular with locals and tourists alike. However it soon became apparent that running a hands on manufacturing business and looking after my family did not go hand in hand at the time. I bought the rites to the Snoovi label and now Snoovi operates from my home studio.
I love to make clothes that give people the opportunity to express their own unique and individual qualities. My inspiration comes from many sources. I love fabrics, colour and design and nature. I love the contour of the body and how clothing can enhance that. I have a passion for putting collections of different fabrics (colours, prints and textures) together into a garment to create a unique and stylish piece.
What I love the most about what I do is when someone gets a buzz out of wearing something I have made or something they have made.
BIG PICTURE
For me making my own clothes is most enjoyable, I get to wear exactly what I want in the colours I want. Over the years I have realised that this is a luxury that I could share with others by teaching them to sew there own clothes.
Snoovi Sewing Courses are about helping people open up there creative flow around clothing and sewing, and give them skills and confidence to make what they love to wear, and to make clothes and items for friends and family. Its about getting away from mass produced clothing and creating your own flavour, who you really are.
